For Pioneer Day this year, we thought it would be fun to head up to "This is the Place Heritage Park". Unfortunately, with the Bar quickly approaching, Cassidy couldn't take more time away from studying, but we did meet Jamie and her 3 cute girls up there. There was way more to do up there than I realized! Such a fun day, and definitely not a dull moment with 2 adults and 6 kids in tow. :) We started out by touring Brigham Young's home while we waited for the train. After riding into main street, we rode the horses, milked a cow, went in the petting zoo, and visited the Black Smith shop. By then it was time for lunch, so we spread out a blanket and had a little picnic. We then got soaked at the splash pad (well, Gavin and Parker did) while we waited for the candy cannon and main street parade. The candy cannon was so fun! Taffy was shot out into the air and fell everywhere! It was a mad dash to get pieces of taffy. The parade was very short, but fun. We then went to the candy shop (because all the taffy was not enough for us, apparently) where they had candy for $.10 and $.20 a piece. The kids were also able to stamp leather, ride a mini train, and pan for gold. We ended our trip by walking around and looking at the monuments and talking about the sacrifice of the pioneers. How grateful I am for the examples of faith demonstrated by the pioneers, and for this opportunity I had to teach my children. I know they had a fun day, but hopefully something more than just the candy and parades stuck with them. :)
