Tiffany and Ryan came into town for an extended weekend for a missionary farewell. Since it was right in between Paige (7/28) and McKinley's (7/2) birthdays, it was decided we would do a trip to the zoo and make it somewhat of a joint birthday party. It had been awhile since we had been to this particular zoo, and it might have even been in the winter last time we were there. Needless to say, there had been a fair amount of changes. We hadn't even seen the Polar Bear yet. There was a Lego display going on while we were there, and it was amazing to see a lot of the different animals at the zoo displayed in Lego form. It was incredible the amount of Legos used and the time spent in building each one. Some of them looked so real! We also went to the Bird Show and had great seats right in the middle. I've only been a few times before, but whenever we have gone, we have sat on the sides. Totally different sitting in the middle where the birds are literally flying inches above your head. Chantelle was picked as the volunteer to stand with her arm extended holding a $5 bill for a bird to come and land on her arm and take the $5 and stick it in the donation box. So, that was entertaining. The kids also enjoyed riding the Carousel, playing on the (spray) Elephant, watching the Otter show, seeing the Polar Bear, and being able to spend the day with their cousins. Unfortunately, it was so incredibly hot. You would never know that by looking at the pictures of Riley in her long sleeve shirt! (She was actually disappointed that I hadn't brought her pink jacket for her to wear as well) She has definitely become very opinionated about her clothes this summer, and would wear her pink (long sleeve) shirt, jean shorts, pink jacket and tennis shoes every single day if I let her. So much for her cute summer dresses/skirts and sandals! Anyway, it was very hot and Gavin was uncharacteristically cranky which made for a long day, but I am glad that the kids got to spend this time with their cousins.
