Cassidy turned the big 3-0 this year, and I wanted to do something really special to celebrate. Well, turns out it's really hard to plan surprises when you've been in your current job for less than a year, are in the type of profession with somewhat of an unpredictable schedule, and vacation time doesn't really exist yet. Sooo, with all that in mind, I went ahead with planning a surprise trip to....Vegas! Haha, I know, I know, we are so lame! I originally had bigger trips in mind, but soon realized that our limited vacation funds would be diminished just in getting to the destinations and we would be forced to eat ramen noodles the whole time. With still being fairly new to Vegas, and not usually getting to explore some areas that we pass by all the time, I thought why not take the money we would have used getting somewhere, and just put it towards everything we have wanted to do in Vegas but haven't been able to yet?? Okay, well not everything, but many things. ;) My Mom had her ticket booked to fly out to be with the kids, the Hotel was booked, and I was feeling pretty good about things. Then, Cassidy kept mentioning that he wanted to take a day or two off just to be able to relax because he hadn't really taken any time off yet, and felt like it was well deserved. He wanted to take these days the week before our planned stay cation. It was difficult to try to show support to him that he did indeed need a vacation, while trying to convince him to not take any days off and that he just needed to wait. In fact, it was almost impossible, so I just told him. It was actually a bit of a relief not having that secret anymore, and then we could plan the activities of our trip together. My Mom flew in on Tuesday, and Cassidy and I left Wednesday night for our little vacation. Our Hotel was really close to the Stratosphere, so we decided to walk over and head up to get a good view of the city. We had no intention of riding any of the rides. However, when we got there, it was only $5 more to ride a ride, so we very quickly opted to ride 2 of the 3 rides. We then had over an hour to stand and wait in line and let our one second decision sink in. By the time we actually reached the top we were seriously wondering what we had gotten ourselves into! It didn't help that the large crowd of people that we had encountered in getting up to the top were no where to be seen near the rides. We ended up riding on "Insanity" and "Big Shot", and loved it! That's not to say that we would ever do it again; let's not go crazy here. BUT, we are glad that we did do it.
The next day, we went to a timeshare presentation (part of the catch of getting such a great hotel for 3 nights for an awesome deal). It was fun to look into some of the options of a time share, although we were never seriously considering getting one right now. Luckily, they weren't super pushy. Afterwards, we went over to "Planet Hollywood" to walk around and get lunch. After getting back to our hotel and going for a swim, we went for a ride on the "High Roller". It offered such a cool view of Las Vegas and we even got to enjoy the fountains show at the Bellagio while up at the top. After our ride, we went to the Flamingo to start our 24 hour Buffet ticket. The buffet at the Flamingo was not very good, so it's a good thing there are a few more buffets on the pass to choose from.
On Friday, Grandma and the kids came over to the hotel for lunch and swimming. It was so good to see them all, and we had a blast swimming! Friday night, we went to the buffet at the Paris...Amazing! Seriously, we should have just gone there for every single buffet meal! It was so good! We then headed across the street to the Bellagio to see "O". Loved it! Worth every penny! (and it was A LOT of penny's!)
Saturday morning, we checked out of our hotel, and headed to the Temple, and then home. The kids (okay, really Grandma ;)) had made us a cute welcome home sign, and crowns to wear. I love knowing that they had a blast with Grandma while we were gone.
It really was such a fun trip! I'm looking forward to bigger vacations in the future (ya know, the kind where we actually leave our city), but for now, this was just perfect. :)
