First Day of School

Parker is starting first grade this year, and Riley is doing a preschool with me.  Parker likes school, but is bothered by the fact that he's gone for 6 whole hours every day.  Apparently, that is eternity to an almost 6 year old.  We will go to an open house tomorrow night, and I am excited to see what he has been up to.  As of now, all I can say about first grade is that there is a lot of homework! Between his nightly reading time, spelling words and math, it takes up a good portion of our afternoon.  As for Riley, we do preschool MWF from 9-11.  As far as she's concerned, she's in school just like Parker.  She got a new school outfit for the first day, a back to school father's blessing, back to school pictures, and she insisted her lunch and backpack be packed the night before her first day. It may seem a little silly, but if anything, I think it has helped her to feel like she has her own thing, as well as to take our time in the preschool room more seriously. She gets excited to share with Daddy and Parker at the dinner table what she did in preschool that day. :) We had a fun, adventurous summer, but it definitely feels good to be settling in and getting back into a routine again.
